FAQ – Facts You Need to Know
Can I take my car to the repair shop of my choice?
By law, you can choose any auto collision repair facility to repair your vehicle. Choose the shop you feel most comfortable and trust your vehicle with. At Hamline AutoBody, we handle everyting on your behalf with your verbal approval. We feature a state-of-the-art facility, computerized systems from simple paintless dent removal to frame straightening. Our technicians are I-Car and ASE certified.
Am I responsible for obtaining more than one estimate?
One estimate is all you need. There’s no law that requires you to get more than one estimate.
Can the repair shop I select adjust its estimates and charges to absorb the deductible required by my insurance company?
No. The repair shop cannot change the cost of repairs to help you pay your deductible. The amount of deductible that you will be responsible for is determined by your insurance policy. Misrepresentation of these facts would constitute fraud.
Can I have my vehicle repair with original equipment (OE) parts…. and will the insurance company pay for them?
If parts are being replaced on your damaged vehicle, your insurance company is required to pay for OE parts, unless you agree to aftermarket parts (parts not made by your vehicles manufacturer). However, your insurance company is only responsible for restoring your vehicle to the way it was before it was damaged. If your vehicle was not new at the time of loss, the insurer does not have to pay for new OE parts. They must pay for parts of “like kind and quality” (OE parts of comparable age and condition). If you request new OE parts on an older vehicle, you may have to pay the difference.
Can I get an rental vehicle?
If you need a rental vehicle, Hamline AutoBody staff can help you make the necessary arrangements. Insurance companies will pay for a rental vehicle if you have that option on your policy of if you are the claimant. Check your policy and / or call your insurance company to find out if you have the rental coverage and what your specirfic limitations are.
